Meet Jan

A tutor who understands how kids think — not just how math works.

Math anxiety is real, and so is the relief of watching it disappear. For over 15 years, Jan has worked with children in Grades 1 through 8 across the West Island of Montréal, helping them build genuine confidence in math — one session at a time.

With a Bachelor of Applied Sciences in Child Studies, Jan brings both subject expertise and a real understanding of child development. That combination is what makes lessons land: she knows how kids learn, where they get stuck, and how to make a concept feel possible instead of overwhelming.

Sessions run entirely online, which means no commute and a consistent, comfortable environment where your child feels safe to make mistakes — and grow from them. Every lesson is tailored to exactly where they are right now, not where a textbook assumes they should be.

"We have been so fortunate to have had Jan as our Math tutor for our children since they were in grade 4, and we honestly couldn't have done it without her. She is dedicated, supportive, and genuinely involved, not just in their schoolwork, but in their growth. She has a special gift for teaching. With her charming little anecdotes and her knack for keeping kids engaged and focused, she connects with children of all ages, from elementary right into early high school years. That's no easy thing, and she makes it look effortless. I can't recommend her highly enough. She has been such an important part of our family's journey, and we are truly grateful."

★★★★★

"My children have benefited from Jan’s expertise in mathematics for over 5 years. It was never a chore or a difficult ask for both my children to attend their math tutoring sessions with Jan because they were so enjoyable! The objective of these sessions was for my children to become confident in mathematics and to learn different techniques and approaches to solving complex problems. Jan fulfilled all of these objectives, and as a testament to her truly amazing work, both my kids ended each school year with an overall average above 90% in math in Junior school and Middle School. Thank you so much Jan for your dedication and commitment to my children’s success in math."

Questions & Answers

Everything you need to know.

Is the intake call really free?

Yes. The 20-minute intake call is completely complimentary for new families — no charge, no obligation. It's a relaxed conversation where Jan learns about your child's current level, any gaps, and what you're hoping to get out of tutoring, so you can both decide if it's a good fit before anything is booked.

How do the online sessions work?

Sessions are conducted online using a shared digital whiteboard and video chat. Your child needs a touchscreen device, a stable internet connection, and their school materials. It's a very interactive approach wherein your child can work through problems just as they would on paper.

What is your cancellation policy?

We ask for at least 48 hours' notice to cancel or reschedule a session. Cancellations made with 48 hours' notice or more carry no fee whatsoever. Full details are in the signed Tutoring Agreement.

How is billing handled?

Invoices are sent on the 1st of each month and billed in advance of that month's sessions. Payment is accepted by Interac e-transfer. Monthly invoices reflect the number of sessions scheduled that month — typically four, occasionally five.

My child struggles with math confidence, not just the content — can Jan help?

Absolutely — this is one of Jan's core strengths. Her background in Child Studies means she understands the emotional side of learning, and creates a patient, pressure-free space where kids feel safe to make mistakes and rebuild their confidence at their own pace.
